Puppies and Kittens and Volunteers, Oh my!

T minus 17 days until SPRING BREAK!!!!!!!! Rachel and I are SO excited to get this show on the road, literally. We have been waiting for months for this big day to come! We officially have all 8 volunteers, 2 coordinators and one chaperone.

This week, we’ve been planning out our route to Chi-Town (it may or may not take 24 hours to get there, get excited)! BUT, we’ve also been planning out where we’re going to eat and what we’re going to do with our free time. Possible places that we’re considering are: Navy Pier, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Bean, and other phenomenal spots.

In case you haven’t heard, there’s this thing called Pre-break for all our volunteers this coming Wednesday, March 2nd. That will be the first time we get to officially meet our volunteers!

Again, can’t wait to meet you all!

Rachel and Ana

Sorry, I had to post this video. How can people not love dogs, when they can do this?

V is for Volunteers!

Although we still have one spot open for someone one the waiting list, we have our volunteers now! That means we will/already have started to stalk you on facebook…i mean add…add you on facebook. We have also been working on the details of our volunteer work with Susan from PAWS, since (according to my dashboard countdown) there are only 29 days 15 hours 22 minutes and 4 seconds til we depart! We have also created  a facebook group, so that all of our volunteers have somewhere to chat and post anything their little hearts desire. Pre-break is coming up in a few weeks, and we are psyched to meet all of the vols in person. Again if you have any questions, please email us at

And now I leave you with a cute video of kittens…

It’s the Final Countdown

Hey y’all,

First off, welcome back to BU for second semester! We are now a few days away from Registration and everything is happening VERY quickly. I have a few updates for you, since the last post.

Sadly, my co-coordinator Erica had to withdraw from BU over winter break. She will be greatly missed by everyone at ASB. But, Ray and Dana (our wonderful PMs) found another CSC Program Manager to fill Erica’s spot.

Her name is Ana Aguilera and she is a PM for MAPP. Ana is originally from Mexico,  but has lived in Chicago for a while now. She is a sophomore, currently in SMG, and she loves doing anything with CSC. I think her knowledge of Chi-town and my love of animals is going to be an unstoppable combination for leading the PAWS trip. I am so excited to have Ana as my Co and we are already working on big/fun plans for the trip.

We will be spending the next few weeks firming up our volunteer schedule and site-seeing schedule, which will include hanging out with Veronica and Vish’s Chicago Vital Bridges trip and hopefully some deep-dish pizza. Also if you’re want to learn more about the PAWS facility, click here to see the pets currently living there.

A few of you have emailed us about the registration process and trip details. Registration is on Sunday the 30th at 8 AM!!! Remember, if you don’t get the trip you want or any trip at all, put yourself on our waitlist. Stuff happens and someone might drop and you’d be able to snag an amazing trip. As far as our trip goes, we will be driving (it is one of the best ways to bond and I love playing car games, so you will not be miserable). We will be staying at a church a few minutes away from PAWS and volunteering Monday-Friday (and possibly part of the day Saturday).

So if you’re having trouble deciding which amazing trip to go on, don’t worry; they’re all amazing. But, if you do decide to come to Chicago with us, your spring break will be amazing from the minute you step into the van in Boston.

coming soon…

A wicked (or super or hella or really or mad) cool post from Ana and Rachel.

Happy Holidays!!

Rachel and I would just like to wish everyone happy holidays and to let you guys know what we’re excited for this break. 🙂

Erica: I’m excited to go home and see my family because this year I’ve been unusually homesick. I cant wait to start baking, decorating, eating and above all sleeping! Sadly my childhood dog passed away resently otherwise I would talk about how excited I am to see her. Overall, I’m happy classes are coming to an end and I’ll be able to sleep again.

Rachel: I’m excited to get out of the 14 degree wind chill. Even though I’m a junior I’m still not used to the cold. I’m also excited for egg nog with my mom, seeing friends, and, like Erica, sleeping (I might try to beat my high school record of 14 hours straight). Christmas break also means I will be playing the Charlie Brown Christmas album constantly, watching It’s A Wonderful Life, and eating a lot.

We hope you all have a wonderful break and come back excited about one of the ASB trips (aka PAWS). So Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, or whatever else you might celebrate!

Some awesome, pawsome videos we thought you’d enjoy 😀

I thought this video was sad the first time I saw it…It’s not. Watch it!

Hello to all former and to-be ASBers,

It’s mid-November, which means ASB is in less than 4 months! This year there are 36 trips, but one trip in particular is going to rock the socks off ASB ’11…Chicago P.A.W.S.!

This year we (Erica O’Sullivan and Rachel Wellford) are coordinators for P.A.W.S., and we could not be happier. P.A.W.S. (Pets Are Worth Saving) is a Chicago-based pet adoption and humane center. It is the city’s largest No Kill humane organization, focused on implementing solutions to end the killing of homeless pets. They help both dogs and cats get put in foster and permanent homes, as well as running a low-cost spay and neuter clinic.

Basically P.A.W.S. is an awesome organization in a wonderful city, so the question is should you go? Answer: Of course!

As far as coordinators go, we don’t wanna brag, but we’re pretty cool. Erica is a sophomore in CGS, minoring in Psychology, and will be transferring to Sargent College for Health Science. She is from Queens, New York. Erica considered minoring in Art, but now does it for fun, and she’s pretty good at it.

Rachel is a junior in COM, majoring in Broadcast Journalism, and minoring in Political Science.  She is from Richmond, Virginia. Rachel plays guitar and sings for fun.

We are pretty different, but we also have a lot in common. Most importantly we both LOVE dogs and the CSC. Erica did FYSOP ’09 and was staff for FYSOP ’10. Rachel went to Goshen, Indiana for ASB ’09 and was staff for FYSOP ’10. She also does Student Food Rescue.

Erica has a 16-year-old German shepherd/Akita mix named Cheetah and a 2-year-old cat named Detective Mittens. She also had a cat named Bubbles, when she was younger. Rachel had a lab/Australian shepherd  named Jake growing up and adopted a pitt-bull/lab puppy named Beau last summer, who now lives with another family.

We would love to have you come with us to Chicago, so check our blog and the ASB website for updates on information sessions and registration next semester. If you have any questions, please email us at
